Another great fleet last night

Eve Online

Last night was another great fleet. We got a total of 468 million in ship kills and got to have fun with Miss Marisha's gang in Tama. I knew they were around, just didn't know where they were, until I ask my Scout Chip Woodsman if Marisha Malice was in the system. He said she was and he narrowed down where they were and we helped and got the drake kill on the gate.

Here is a small clip from that fight:

Project Nova, Eve Online's Canceled Multiplayer Shooter, Is Getting A Reboot At CCP's London Studio

Project Nova

Even Eve fans are likely to have forgotten Project Nova, CCP's ambitious first-person shooter set in the Eve Online universe. Initially revealed back at Eve Fanfest 2018, it was quietly canceled in February of last year along with Fanfest 2020.

It wasn't the coronavirus that killed Project Nova, however, but poor reception from fans after closed alpha testing. That's according to CCP Games PR head George Kelion, who spoke to MCV about the ultimate fate of Project Nova.

"After taking [playtesting] into account, we saw that the gameplay experience of its hands-on demo did not live up to our original vision and would not achieve our ambitious goals for the project," said Kelion. CCP then took Project Nova back into "incubation" where it has remained.

A New Live Event for July

Eve Online

Attention capsuleers! Have you ever pointed your camera drones at some distant nebula or beautiful sight and thought “I should have studied photography at the Science and Trade Institute instead of becoming a pod pilot”? Well, if so, Team Illuminati has a new event coming up for you to scratch that artistic itch of yours, while also giving you the opportunity to get some cool stuff. And for those of you who don't like snapping pictures, hopefully it'll give you a chance to blow up the potential photographers.

During the summer months, we here at the Illuminati Team are taking an opportunity to try something different with live events for a while. For the past year, we've been running events with actors in system which players get to come and interact with; either to help them, negotiate with them, or just blow them up. Now we'd like to try look at other possibilities.

For our first experiment, we're holding this photography contest on behalf of the Sisters of EVE, who are well known for exploring the universe of New Eden. We're hoping to allow a wider range of players to participate, over a variety of time zones and locations, with different playstyles than we've been able to support so far. We hope you like it!

Gate to Stain Under Construction

Gate To Stain

Stain-based Capsuleers,

As part of our next Quadrant release, you can expect to see a new route opening up in the southern regions of New Eden bringing a long-awaited Lowsec gate to Stain. This newly-built stargate will offer Capsuleers expedient access into and out of this NPC Nullsec region, making it much more favorable as a place to live or stage from.

WWB2: The Story So Far

WWB2

World War Bee 2 has been rampaging through New Eden since last July, marking nearly 250 days since the inception of the PAPI coalition, comprised primarily of the Legacy and PanFam/Winter coalitions, with the primary goal of nuking the Imperium (commonly referred to as Goons) out of existence. Through nine months of war, a lot has happened. The Imperium News Network has been posting updates about the combat actions and strategic accomplishments every week for the last 35 weeks (their latest here) and you can view all these updates here. However, the intention of this article is to, instead of digging into specific battles and turning points, provide a broad stroked view of the war, taking you from the beginning to now, where the war is entering its final phase: the Siege and (hopefully for PAPI) eventual destruction of the Goon staging system of 1DQ1-A.

Throughout this article, there will be links to specific coverage both on this website and other EVE news outlets. These links can open in a new window so feel free to read at your leisure.

Before we dig in to the events of the war, there are two campaign battle reports that I would like to share. The first battle report is circulated by the Imperium and includes every region in the game and also places anyone who is not the Imperium on the side of PAPI. This includes neutral logistics crews (which the Imperium uses) who are unfortunate enough to meet their end in various reaches of space. I have also prepared an alternate battle report, only looking at the areas of conflict (including invaders’ home regions where a counter-invasion has happened) and removing truly neutral parties from either side. Though, at the scale of loss here, the difference is rather trivial, I feel it relevant to ensure accuracy in reporting.

EVE Anywhere enters beta

From today, a greater number of pilots have the opportunity to join a time-limited test of a cloud-based platform that allows a fully-featured EVE Online to be played in-browser, instantly.

Newly named as ‘EVE Anywhere’, the cloud platform has entered beta following a successful early-stage trial that saw EVE Online players explore the innovative and robust technology while helping improve its offering. The new test will help further shape and refine the platform while exploring the potential of wider availability in the future.

Conceived to expand the player community of EVE Online, EVE Anywhere removes barriers for newcomers, while providing veterans of New Eden with an extremely convenient way to access their game. The early-stage trial has already demonstrated that potential, seeing first-time EVE Online players stay for longer, with higher numbers converting into full-time pilots.

Federation Grand Prix Returns to EVE Online with New Monuments

Federation Grand Prix

Previous Federation Grand Prix have seen you race around various iconic sites in EVE Online including systems and space wrecks. You compete for best time and will be rewarded for various milestones you reach. Each time you race, you’ll do so on a new course.

As the event concludes, CCP will share some monuments meant to celebrate players and events throughout the history of EVE Online. New monuments this year include the Statue of Chribba which pays tribute to, “one of the most celebrated, trusted, and respected,” players in EVE Online.

There will also be an Alliance Tournament Monument. This one is meant to honor the “scale and tenacity” of combat. Finally, CCP will unveil the Project Discover Phase Two Monument. This one commemorates all the time the community has poured into helping scientists discover various exoplanets, fighting the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and more.

REIGN - NEW QUADRANT BEGINS TODAY

Achieve tactical supremacy and victory in New Eden with EVE Online's new Quadrant "Reign", the first in 2021! Launching a new year of Quadrants after 2020's successful introduction of themed content for EVE, Reign brings with it exciting new updates to fleets and travel, continuous balance and meta changes, plus returning events such as the Guardian's Gala and The Hunt.

Fleet options in EVE will improve during the Reign Quadrant thanks to the Fleet Discovery update.

Many more upcoming changes will soon see the light as the Quadrant progresses, as has been the case for all of EVE's Quadrants so far. One upcoming change will give Capsuleers more control over fleet formations and presence on the battlefield. For the curious, the Quadrant trailer is a solid starting point for theory crafters.

Cloudflare Security Solutions Help CCP Games Stop DDoS Attacks & Credential-Stuffing Bots

CCP Games Logo

Headquartered in Reykjavík, Iceland, CCP Games develops cutting-edge, massively multiplayer online (MMO) games — including EVE Online, an MMO whose 300,000+ active players populate a virtual universe, traveling in intricate spacecrafts that require years of time and thousands of dollars to build.

EVE Online’s global player base forge real connections with one another and spend real money in-game. Transaction errors and other glitches that detract from the in-game experience are unacceptable. DDoS attacks that slow game servers or take them down completely are devastating to game developers.

Account takeovers (ATOs) are also a big issue in the gaming industry. User credentials for MMO games fetch high prices on the Dark Web. In addition to in-game currency and digital assets, these accounts contain valuable personal identifying information (PII) and payment card data.

EPIC, HISTORIC FFA

Yesterday A Band Apart & Stay Frosty held our 7th Annual FFA Event in Ouelletta and all of Eve Online was invited to participate. And while all of them didn't show up obviously, a big number of them did.

Ok, so deep breath. All in all we handed out aprox 6,300 Frigates. It is hard to know exact numbers because at the end there we were raiding our regular Corporation hangars and handing out anything we could to keep up. I think we even handed out our cache of Ganking Thrashers we keep on hand.

According to Dotlan, Ouelletta saw over 11,000 ship and pod kills yesterday. With some reports putting that number up over the 12,000 total. Again, it is always hard to know the true data and we're waiting on a potential final tally from CCP. Once we have that I'll update this post with the new information.

If these numbers hold and I fully expect them to based on what we've seen, this may very well be the largest loss of ships/pods in one day EVER in Low Security space. Based on what I know of Eve history I expect it will be an historic day. I used to attend RnK's FFA events back in the day and while they were huge for their time, I don't ever remember them resulting in these types of numbers. And Low Sec battles, while many like Asakai are historic, never really add up to these numbers either. So I expect we've set new records here. And if you happened to be there, you'll have something else to remember it by.

EVE Online will let you 'borrow' skills to try new ships soon

Eve Online Free To Play

In EVE Online, it's not just enough to accrue the millions of ISK required to fly a battleship. You also have to train up the skills required to fly one, an act that can take months of actual time. But soon, CCP will let you take EVE's spiciest ships for a test drive, letting you borrow the required skills with new "Expert System" consumables.

Announced last week, Expert Systems will give you a week of temporary skill points in a "variety of professions", without having to commit. Considering the length of time it takes to train up (and the skill point limits applied to free pilots), these are pitched as a good way to explore new styles of play.

Player-Led EVE Online Event. Frigate Free For All, Happening This Saturday

Frigate Free for All

EVE Online's player exploits are legendary within the video game world. Large scale wars, Cold War-esque spy thrillers and more have littered EVE's history, but so have some of the player run events intended to bring capsuleers together. This weekend will see one such event, the 7th annual Frigate Free For All.

In a blog post by EVE Online player Rixx Javix, the large event will be hosted on Saturday, March 6th at 16:00 UTC/EVE time (that's 11am ET/8am PT for us here in North America) and will feature players duking it out in Frigates for a morning of fun and lots and lots of explosions.
"No matter what you do inside the game, this is your chance to experience the excitement of PvP without the worry or stress. We have pilots from all over who come to these and enjoy themselves. Many of our own pilots came to Stay Frosty from experiencing their first taste of PvP at one of our FFA Events. Who knows? The next one might be you." - Rixx Javix
