'EVE Online' Partners With University of Iceland For New Online Course

Created in partnership with the University of Iceland, the course explores “The Friendship Machine,” or the science behind how people forge meaningful relationships and how video games have created a new type of human connection. The course is now available on edX.org and includes the first three weeks free for anyone who would like to register. Unlimited access, including the final quiz and course certificate, is available for $50 USD / €40.91 EURO / £35.19 GPB.

Friendship Machine: Forming a New Type of Human Connection dives into the science behind friendship, how video games are developing as a form of entertainment, and the positive and negative impacts of video games on human connection. It also provides compelling insights into the friendships and connections that players forge through video games, the risk of loneliness and social isolation in society, and more through analyzing real player stories from the EVE Online community.

Participants can enjoy Friendship Machine: Forming a New Type of Human Connection at their own pace. All course materials are available immediately upon registration.

Top 8 Promotional Video Game Music Videos

Unlike most of the other videos on this list, there’s no gameplay clips of sequences from Eve Online. That’s because the actual gameplay of Eve is boring as hell, so I can see why they didn’t include it. I kid, I kid. This music video is more of a promotional video for CCP, showing the staff in the Icelandic, Atlanta and China areas, singing along to the song. Permaband has done about half a dozen songs since HTFU but to me, it’s still the best one they’ve done.

EVE Anywhere Is Ruining My Productivity

EVE Online In Browser Form Equals Convenience

Sometimes I'm bouncing back and forth between the browser with EVE Online pulled up to shoot space rocks in the background, something I've done on occasion while working before, but it's made all the more convenient when I can just switch tabs, go to full screen for a moment and make sure rats - or other players - haven't warped in to ruin my day.

EVE Anywhere is such a novel way to play the MMORPG. It's not like EVE Online requires a ton of system resources to run, either. My PC could easily run multiple instances of the MMO while still running the windows needed to work. However, there is just something about opening up a Firefox or Chrome tab and just being able to easily swap between the two.

Eve Online experienced its own GameStop-like short squeeze

All the excitement around GameStop’s stock has bled into GamesBeat’s discussions around the metaverse. And it turns out that stock market manipulation isn’t exclusive to the physical world.

Petursson joined moderator Mike Vorhaus of Vorhaus Partners to discuss Eve Online’s role as one of the earliest metaverses during GamesBeat’s Into The Metaverse event. Petursson and Vorhaus also discussed what it means to be a metaverse and the growth of Eve Online during the panel.

Petursson didn’t go into specifics about the in-game short squeezes, but added that gamers have manipulated their market in the same ways the real stock market is being manipulated right now.

“Reality is giving us a run for our money right now,” Petursson said. Eve Online did have a player-made stock market for a short time, but it isn’t currently in the game and hasn’t been available for the majority of its 17-year lifespan.

Graphic designer

I had a new logo created in the image of Anubis the Egyptian God of death, mummification, embalming, the afterlife, cemeteries, tombs, and the Underworld. I have always had a fascination with him and what he represents in Egyptian lore.

I started to follow a graphic artist on Twitter named Emma Wilson. She sent me a message asking if I wanted to get some work done and at first, I didn't need a logo because I had just had one made by someone else. I did decide to get a new one done because, although the other logo was good, I could see she would do better.

After a few days, I had a new logo, done professionally and she was great working with me on what I wanted and what I was looking for. She worked with me as far as payment (half down and the other half after completion) and payments were made through Paypal.

Give her a follow on Twitter and check out her work
